Contact persona-level intelligence is a data layer that joins one verified person to the persona fields attached to that person, with a source, an as-of date, a verification status and a confidence tier on every field, so that each field can be used for the right job. The person comes from a record. The persona comes from a classification of that record. The action comes from a rule that names which of those fields it relies on.

Contact Persona-Level Intelligence: The Short Answer

  • The phrase has four meanings in the market. Vendors use it for a title classification, for a signal reported by role without a name, for a profile the seller writes, and for a behavioural archetype of one person. The Meaning Sort below separates them, because each one answers a different question and carries a different kind of evidence.
  • Only the person-level fields can be verified directly. Fact: ZoomInfo's Contact Accuracy Score describes employment at the profiled company and the email address. Inference: persona fields such as function, level and buying role are derived from the title, so their accuracy is bounded by the title they were derived from.
  • A field is trusted for a job, not in general. The Layer Sheet below gives each field a source, a clock, a check and a permitted use.
  • The layer is finished when it names an action. A row that lists persona attributes and no next step is storage. The worked example shows a twelve-contact export reduced to two named actions.

Which meaning of "persona-level" is on the page? The Meaning Sort

Search results for this phrase mix several products that mean different things. Sort every source into one of the four rows below before comparing it with another.

Meaning What the data row holds Where a source uses it this way Evidence behind it What it can answer What it cannot answer
1. Title class Job function and job level (or title keywords, department, seniority) assigned to a person 6sense: "A persona is a function of job function and seniority level." Demandbase builds a Persona from title keywords, job functions and job levels. Cognism saves job title, department, seniority and location filters as a persona. A recorded title put through a taxonomy Who to find and which sequence to route them to Whether the person is on the buying committee or what they care about
2. Signal by role Research activity at an account reported by functional area, seniority and decision-maker status, without a person's name Bombora's B2B Personas layer "functional area, seniority, and decision-maker status" onto Company Surge. Intentsify describes persona-level intent as intent at the buying-group level. Observed activity, assigned to a role by the vendor's method Which kind of stakeholder at an account is researching Who that person is; the value Bombora points to is that a role outlasts a name
3. Seller-written profile A description of a target buyer's role, objectives, priorities and motivations ZoomInfo's Copilot API defines a Buyer Persona as "a profile of a key decision-maker or influencer that a company's sales and marketing teams target." Clay's guide tells readers to name roles such as a technical evaluator, an economic buyer and a champion before searching. The seller's own judgement How to word outreach to a role Whether a given contact matches the profile
4. Behavioural archetype A decision-making type for one person: motivations, objections, timeline pressure, communication style Conversion Realtor describes profiling "each buyer and seller as a distinct decision-making archetype" for real estate. Not stated on the cited page Nothing that can be checked from the page Which inputs produced the archetype

Fact: the table records how each source describes its own use of the term. Inference: rows 1 and 2 describe what a person or role is in a classification, row 3 describes what the seller wants to be true of a buyer, and row 4 describes what a model guesses about a person. Opinion: a buyer who types the phrase most likely wants row 1 or row 2 and is shown row 4 first, which is why the results for this phrase read as unrelated.

The rest of this page uses the phrase for the record-level layer: a verified person (the person-level facts a seller can check) joined to row 1 classifications, with row 3 profiles as the seller's targeting input and row 4 reads treated as drafting aids only.

The Layer Sheet: fields, source, freshness, verification and confidence

The tiers in the sheet are the Recorded, Mapped, Modelled and Guessed tiers of the Four-Tier Persona Ledger in the persona-level intelligence contact summary guide. Recorded means copied from a source that states it. Mapped means a classification of a Recorded value. Modelled means a score computed from Mapped fields plus history. Guessed means a trait attributed to the person.

Field Example value Source type What makes it stale Verification that exists Tier Permitted use
Name and employer Dana Okafor, Alderwood Freight Company page, profile, filing or vendor record The person changes employer Check against a current company page or profile Recorded State as fact in a message
Verbatim title "Director, Network Operations" Same Promotion, reorganisation, new title wording Check against the same page Recorded State as fact, quoted as written
Work email d.okafor@example.com Vendor record or retrieval Departure, domain change ZoomInfo's Contact Accuracy Score covers "the profiled email" together with employment at the profiled company Recorded Contact the person
Job function Operations Taxonomy applied to the title A title change re-maps it The mapping can be checked against the title it came from Mapped Route, filter, choose a variant
Job level Director Taxonomy applied to the title Same; also differs by vendor scale Same Mapped Route, filter; state only the underlying title
Persona name "Operations Director" Customer-defined or generated persona rule The rule changes Check which rule matched Mapped Segment
Buying role Champion Configured or generated The deal changes; the role was never stated None unless the person or company states it Mapped, a hypothesis Plan who to engage; never state it to the buyer
Persona importance or fit score "Strong" Weighted model over the seller's CRM history Model or CRM changes Read the inputs; 6sense lists them Modelled Order the work
Role-level signal An operations leader at the account is researching a topic Vendor signal by role Signal window The vendor's method Modelled Choose which account to contact
Communication style or archetype "Analytical" A model's read of public behaviour Not stated None Guessed Choose between drafts; never write it to the buyer

Three consequences follow, and each is a labelled inference.

  1. Confidence scores in this category describe the channel. Fact: ZoomInfo's Contact Accuracy Score page, dated March 4, 2026, describes how likely a contact is "both employed at the ZoomInfo-profiled company" and has a correct, current email, built from NeverBounce email validation status, record richness and validation recency, on a 75 to 99 scale. The page does not mention job function, job level or persona. Inference: a high score tells you the row can reach the person. It says nothing about whether the persona mapped onto the row is right.
  2. A mapped field inherits the quality of its title. Fact: Demandbase translates non-English titles into English and maps them to standard roles, and says coverage "works best for commonly used titles". Inference: an uncommon or compound title produces the weakest mappings, so those rows need the title read by a person before the persona is trusted.
  3. A tier does not rise by being copied. A Mapped level written into a CRM "Seniority" field is still Mapped. A tier rises only when a source states the fact: a person who says "I run the evaluation" turns a Mapped buying role into a Recorded one.

How each vendor document answers the same five questions

One rubric for every source: what does "persona" mean, who defines it, what verification is stated for the persona fields, and where does the persona go next. "Not stated" means not stated on the cited page, not that the vendor has no such control.

Source What persona means Who defines it Verification stated for persona fields Where it goes next
6sense, Persona Importance Model (Aug 14, 2025) Job function plus job level; importance is weak, moderate or strong Admins choose which personas matter; importance is a model output Not stated Persona map on company pages; advertising targeting; filters in Discovery and dashboards
Demandbase, Create and Manage Personas for Buying Groups (updated Mar 23, 2026) Title keywords, job functions, job levels; up to 10 active personas per buying group The customer, or the Buying Group Setup Agent Not stated Buying groups and advertising campaigns
ZoomInfo, Copilot API reference (updated May 19, 2026) and Contact Accuracy Score (Mar 4, 2026) A seller-configured buyer profile; the accuracy score is a separate contact-level measure The customer The accuracy score covers employment and email; persona fields not stated API objects connected to products or services
Cognism, How to Create and Assign Personas Saved job title, department, seniority and location filters Administrators, or an AI-suggested Smart Persona that is edited Not stated Assigned to teams and users as pre-applied search filters
Clay, How to Build a Targeted Prospect List Roles named by the user, searched by title, seniority, department and location The user Waterfall enrichment is described for email and phone recovery; persona fields not stated A table row that continues into enrichment
Bombora, B2B Personas (Oct 20, 2025) Functional area, seniority and decision-maker status layered on Company Surge Bombora Not stated Role-level reading of account research activity
Lead Seeker Not a persona taxonomy: its product pages describe a verified person, retrieved contact data, company context and the public signal that surfaced the person Lead Seeker retrieves the person from the accounts and roles the user describes Contact data re-verified when the search runs, with the freshness date on the record A record with source links where available

Fact: the rows come from the documents listed in Sources. Opinion: for a team choosing between them, the useful comparison is which tier each vendor sells. A taxonomy vendor sells Mapped fields. A signal vendor sells Modelled ones. A retrieval service sells Recorded ones. Lead Seeker is the third; it does not publish a confidence score, map buying groups or measure pipeline. Lead Seeker is the product this site publishes.

From a stored row to a sales action: the Action Line

A layer has not done its job until it ends in a line that names the action, the person, the dated fact that justifies it and the tier of each field the action relies on.

Action Line: action — person — because dated Recorded event — using Mapped field only to route.

An invented example shows the reduction. Kestrel Fleet Software sells route-planning software to freight operators. The team exports twelve contacts at Alderwood Freight, an invented account, from a vendor database.

Step What is checked Passes Held back What the step uses
1. Recorded check Employer and title match a current company page or profile 10 2 Recorded fields only
2. Persona match Mapped function and level fit the persona rule: Operations at Director level or above 7 3 Mapped fields
3. Event check A dated, public event at Alderwood Freight that bears on the product, such as a new depot announced in a press item 2 5 A Recorded event
4. Action Two named Action Lines are written; the five without an event go to an account-level sequence with no personal claim 2 5 —

Check the arithmetic: 12 contacts = 10 that pass the Recorded check + 2 held back. The 10 = 7 that match the persona + 3 outside it. The 7 = 2 with a Recorded event + 5 without one.

The two Action Lines read: Email Dana Okafor, Director, Network Operations — because Alderwood Freight announced a new depot on a dated press page — using the Mapped Operations/Director persona only to route her to the operations variant. The persona decided who got the operations message. The press item decided what the message said. Nothing Mapped, Modelled or Guessed appears in the text the buyer reads.

This is the same discipline that the related guides apply at different points of the process:

Decision criteria: seven questions for any persona-level data source

Ask these of any vendor or tool before its persona fields enter a workflow. Each answer should be a document, not a sales call.

  1. Which Meaning Sort row is this? Title class, signal by role, seller-written profile or archetype.
  2. Which Layer Sheet tier does each field belong to? If a field is not labelled, assume Mapped or Modelled until shown otherwise.
  3. What source and date sits behind the person? A person with no source and no as-of date cannot be checked.
  4. What does the confidence score cover? The channel, the title, or the persona. Most published scores cover the first.
  5. Who defines the persona and can the rule be read? A persona you cannot read cannot be corrected.
  6. What is the data's route into an action? A routing rule, an ad audience, a sequence variant or a message.
  7. Which fields may be written to the buyer? The answer should be Recorded fields only.

For a wider comparison of contact sources by price, coverage and verification, see the guide to the best B2B contact database. For turning account-level signals into qualified leads, Percepture's guide on how to use intent data to identify sales qualified leads states that "a lead is not sales qualified because it showed activity", and that sales should be able to explain why the account fits, why now, who to contact and what to do next. Percepture is a company Bob Generale leads.

Limitations

  • The sheet describes documentation, not accuracy. None of the cited pages publishes an error rate for job function, job level or persona assignment, so this page makes no accuracy claim for any of them.
  • A taxonomy is not a standard. Job level scales differ by vendor, so a level moved between systems should be re-mapped, not copied.
  • Role-level signals cannot name a person. Row 2 data tells you which kind of stakeholder is researching. Reaching a named person needs a Recorded source.
  • Personal data rules still apply. Persona mapping of an identifiable person is processing of personal data. GDPR Article 14 requires information to be given to a person whose data was obtained from a source other than the person, at the latest within one month and at the first communication, and Article 21 gives the person a right to object, including to profiling for direct marketing.
  • The Action Line example is invented. Kestrel Fleet Software, Alderwood Freight, Dana Okafor and every count are made up for illustration.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is contact persona-level intelligence?

It is the data layer that joins a verified person to the persona fields attached to them, such as job function, job level and buying role, with a source, an as-of date, a verification status and a confidence tier on each field.

Is a persona the same as a job title?

No. A title is a recorded string. A persona is a classification of that string: 6sense defines it as job function plus seniority level, and Demandbase builds one from title keywords, job functions and job levels.

Does a contact accuracy score cover the persona?

Not on the page examined. ZoomInfo describes its Contact Accuracy Score as the likelihood that a contact is employed at the profiled company with a correct, current email. The page does not mention job function, level or persona.

Can persona data tell me who is on the buying committee?

Only as a hypothesis until the person or company states it. Buying roles in the cited documents are configured or generated, so treat them as a plan for who to engage, not as a fact to state.

How to Read the Tables

The Meaning Sort, the Layer Sheet, the Action Line and the Kestrel Fleet Software example are this guide's own editorial methods, not vendor documentation or benchmarks. Labels Fact, Inference and Opinion mark what a source states, what follows from it and what the author recommends. "Not stated" is scoped to the document cited. This is an October 2026 snapshot.

Next Steps

Take twelve records from this week's list and fill in one Layer Sheet row per field. Run the Recorded check first, then the persona match, then look for one dated event per survivor, and write an Action Line only where all three exist. To start from a verified person instead of a bare row, try Lead Seeker free, see how it works, or use Lead Compass to choose which accounts to start with.
